Call 000 now if
Your child is not breathing, is blue or floppy, cannot be woken, is having a seizure, has a severe allergic reaction, has swallowed a button battery, or you think their life is in danger. For yourself, call 000 if you have heavy bleeding, chest pain, or thoughts of ending your life and feel unsafe.
Call Healthdirect or your maternity unit if
You are unsure whether something is serious. A baby under 3 months with a temperature of 38°C or more, fewer wet nappies, a baby who is feeding much less, or a change in your baby’s movements in pregnancy all need same-day advice.
Poisons
If someone has swallowed, inhaled or touched something that might be poisonous, call the Poisons Information Centre on 13 11 26, any time. Have the container with you.
When to call
Call any time you are worried about your baby, your child or yourself. You do not need to be sure something is wrong.
